Default My back hurts when walking

I have noticed if I go out for long walks now, my back really hurts! It gets so painful sometimes that I have to stop walking and have 10 mins rest before I carry on. Is this due to weight or being unfit?

I think this may be due to you putting more weight on Sarah, if your not used to going out walking that much it can put strain on your back, legs etc. so all I can think of is take things slowly, don't try to rush into it and your body will get used to it

Thanks for your reply K1nS, I have been trying to take it more slowly now and not push myself too much. When it starts to hurt, I slow down and take it easy and it seems to have helped me out this morning when I went for a walk

Walking for long distance is really good habit sarah. Don't stop it. Do it regularly. While starting stage you will get more pain in your back and also in your knees. Don't mind about it. If you do it regularly, you will not get any pain in back or your legs.

Yeah I know it is very good exercise and I want to carry on, I think I may build up slowly though and then I am not in so much pain all the time

Very good sarah. When I was in armed force I used to run for almost 20 kilometers per day with my guns and bags which is almost 8kg. While starting I feel very hard to complete 20 kilometers and I have much pain in knees. But day after day I become very fit and strong. Now I can run more than 20 kilometers with out stopping at any point.

It's only because you put lot of weight. Your body weight is supported by your legs and your pelvic bone. If you put lot of weight you may get pain in your knees and in your back. Try to control your weight.
